Microorganisms react to different environmental conditions and the ability to predict their behavior can benefit your operations

Time & Location
Oct 08, 2026, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Zoom Meeting
About the event
Predictive Microbiology is the study of how microorganisms would react to certain environmental conditions, such as that of temperature and pH, with the use of mathematical functions and the aid of specialized softwares. While it will never replace microbial analysis, predictve microbial models can narrow down possible outcomes when introducing changes in your processes leading to a more efficient validation process.
Areas Covered in this Session
Introduction to Predictive Microbiology
Brief Review of Food Microbiology
Microbial Modelling Approaches
Applications of Predictive Microbiology in the Food Industry
Illustration or Discussion of Actual Laboratory Experiments in Predictive Microbiology

About the Speaker
Andrew D. Montecillo, MSc, RMic is a tenured Assistant Professor at the Microbiology Division of the Institute of Biological Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB). He is a Registered Microbiologist in the Philippines.
Prof. Montecillo holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, major in Microbiology (magna cum laude), and a Master of Science in Microbiology (minor in Computer Science), both from UPLB, where he earned his master’s degree with distinction. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Microbiology (by Research) at the same institution. He has an active teaching portfolio at UPLB, where he lectures on courses such as General Microbiology, Microbial Genetics, Microbial Ecology, and MCB 285: Predictive Microbiology. His academic background in computer science complements his teaching of Predictive Microbiology, a computationally intensive field that relies on mathematical modeling and simulation to forecast microbial behavior. His combined expertise in microbiology and computational methods enables him to effectively teach and mentor in this interdisciplinary area.
